Our take

Sinners is Ryan Coogler's R-rated horror drama set in 1932 Mississippi, where twin brothers reopen a juke joint and face supernatural and human threats. Expect strong bloody violence, several clothed but intense sex scenes, frequent profanity including racial slurs, and Ku Klux Klan menace. Best for mature teens and adults who can handle horror gore and historical racism on screen

Talk after watching

  • How does the film use 1930s racism alongside vampire horror, and what might that say about community and survival?
  • Twin brothers share a bond under extreme pressure. What keeps family loyalty strong when danger closes in?
  • Music and nightlife are central to the story. How does art help people endure fear and oppression?
