Prisoner of War

Movie 2025 113 min MA 15+ Action, War, Thriller, History
AMU 17+ * Quality ★★★☆☆

Our take

Scott Adkins leads a British officer forced into fight-to-the-death bouts in a Japanese prison camp. Rated R for strong violence and some language. Reviews describe beheadings, skull stabbings, and execution-style shootings. Historical war cruelty is graphic. For mature action fans, not younger teens

Uplifting themes

Courage, perseverance, and protecting fellow prisoners Wright fights for others though methods are violent

Story (may spoil tone)

British RAF Wing Commander James Wright is captured by the Japanese during WWII and forced to fight in brutal hand-to-hand combat. The Japanese soldiers get more than they bargained for when Wright’s years of martial arts training in Hong Kong prove him to be a formidable opponent.

Talk after watching

  • POW abuse is historically documented. How does the film balance action with respect?
  • Extreme martial arts violence is the draw. Discuss desensitization versus remembrance.
  • Courage and teamwork appear under duress. Who earns admiration?
