Our take
Eden is Ron Howard's R-rated thriller based on a true 1930s Galápagos settlement where idealists turn on each other. Expect shootings, stabbings, a graphic head wound, and a harrowing childbirth under attack, plus several sex scenes and full male nudity. Smoking and strong language fit the period. Adults only; not a family adventure despite the island setting
Uplifting themes
Courage and perseverance appear, though cynicism dominates the story Few characters stay morally steady as the colony fractures

Story (may spoil tone)
A group of disillusioned outsiders abandon modern society in search of a new beginning. Settling on a remote, uninhabited island, their utopian dream quickly unravels as they discover that the greatest threat isn’t the brutal climate or deadly wildlife, but each other.

Talk after watching
- Utopian dreams collide with human flaws. Why do groups struggle when they try to start over?
- Historical isolation changes how people treat each other. How does stress affect morality?
- True stories adapted for film leave things out. What questions would you ask about what really happened?
