Our take

My Dearest Assassin is a Netflix TV-MA action thriller about Lhan, whose ultra-rare blood type makes her a target for assassin houses and black-market buyers. Expect frequent gunfights, stabbings, a foot amputation, and a woman branded with a hot knife, plus strong language and some shirtless kissing. Adults drink and smoke between set pieces. The romance between Lhan and fellow assassin Pran is meant to be sweet but raises uncomfortable power questions reviewers say the film barely explores

Uplifting themes

Themes of trust, loyalty, and protecting loved ones appear, but reviewers say the romance oversimplifies darker power dynamics Lhan grows more assertive, yet most adults around her are killers with mixed motives

Story (may spoil tone)

Hunted for her rare blood type, a caged woman vows to fight alongside the assassin she loves to protect their future when an old enemy resurfaces.

Talk after watching

  • Lhan is valued for her blood before she is seen as a person — how does the movie handle that idea, and what does it leave out?
  • Pran teaches Lhan to kill to protect herself — can love and violence coexist in a story without glamorizing either?
  • Several characters claim they hurt people for good reasons — how can families talk about when ends justify means?
  • The film shows graphic violence but keeps romance relatively tame — why do action movies often flip that balance?
  • Lhan's parents are killed when she is young — how does early trauma shape her trust in the assassin family that raised her?
