Our take
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is rated PG for action, mild violence, and rude humor. Mario, Luigi, and Peach rocket across galaxies to stop Bowser Jr. from freeing his father. Expect fantasy battles with lasers, bombs, and explosions; a giant robot kidnapping; a T-Rex chase; and a character turning into a skeleton after lava. Kissing sounds and cheek kisses appear, but there is no real romance plot. Mild insults and one deity exclamation are the language extent. Most kids 7+ who handled the first Mario film should be fine; sensitive preschoolers may need a hand during darker moments

Story (may spoil tone)
Having thwarted Bowser's previous plot to marry Princess Peach, Mario and Luigi now face a fresh threat in Bowser Jr., who is determined to liberate his father from captivity and restore the family legacy. Alongside companions new and old, the brothers travel across the stars to stop the young heir's crusade.
