Our take

Mayday is a tense spy adventure about a Navy pilot stuck in hostile country. Planes get shot down, people talk about killing, and there is some blood. Swearing shows up a lot, mostly the s-word, hell, and damn, with at least one f-word. Fine for teens who already watch mid-teen action. Young kids will find the danger and language too much

Uplifting themes

Two people who should be enemies choose to help each other survive The pilot keeps trying to do right by his country even when the mission goes wrong A Cold War setting that can start a talk about trust, orders, and propaganda

Story (may spoil tone)

When a U.S. Navy pilot on a top-secret mission during the Cold War gets trapped behind enemy lines, his only chance at survival is to form an alliance with an eccentric ex-KGB agent.

Talk after watching

  • Would you trust a stranger if they were your only way home?
  • The story is set in the Cold War. What feels like history, and what feels like a movie?
  • When is it right to disobey an order?
